Corpusse: Surrender to the Passion
A film by Malcolm Fraser
(2010, 59 minutes, HD)
About Corpusse
Corpusse is a Montreal-born musician, performance artist and painter who has been pursuing his singular vision for over 20 years. His work defies categorization — Rue Morgue magazine called "gothic shock opera," Montreal cultural archivist Louis Rastelli describes it as “a cross between spoken word and pro wrestling,” and the Montreal Mirror once stated: "If you think you've heard it all, you haven't heard Corpusse."
About the film
Corpusse: Surrender to the Passion is a documentary about Corpusse, his life, art and philosophy; an occasionally shocking and unexpectedly touching portrait. With footage of Corpusse’s riveting live shows and interviews with collaborators, friends, fans and the secretive Corpusse himself, the film tells the story of one of Canada’s most unique and under-appreciated artists.
About the filmmaker
Malcolm Fraser is a writer, filmmaker and musician based in Montreal. He is currently employed as a film critic and editor at the Montreal Mirror, a weekly newspaper, and is also known as a musical entertainer under the name The World Provider. Corpusse: Surrender to the Passion is his second long-form documentary, after Everything’s Coming My Way (2005) a portrait of outsider musician Gordon Thomas made in collaboration with Stacey DeWolfe.
