Most People release Violet Spaces EP with a Multimedia Performance Spectacle - and Remixes!

On May 23, prolific Toronto indie/electronic pop duo and Wavelength Incubator band Most People will celebrate the release of their new EP Violet Spaces with a special Wavelength concert in a puppet factory - the Clay and Paper Theatre, located at 35 Strachan Avenue, south of King, in downtown Toronto. With the help of Andrew Lamb, the multi-media show will incorporate puppetry and projections, as well as opening sets by Petra Glynt, Hush Pup, and Pursuit Grooves (DJ set), all in a DIY
loft party atmosphere.

The second in a rolling series of EPs the duo of Brandon Gibson-DeGroote and Paul McEachern has released since their self-titled debut LP dropped in 2012, the band's aim with Violet Spaces was to create a notably more collaborative, electronic, danceable, and emotive EP than their previous material, while still retaining their signature mix of nostalgic pop sounds and references.

Bassist/vocalist/songwriter Gibson-DeGroote says: "Violet Spaces is a metaphor for an experience of authentic tangible connection. The EP is about a longing and a struggle for that experience. ... But still somewhat tongue-in-cheek and fun, because we don't take ourselves that seriously."

Violet Spaces was produced by Toronto electronic musician DIGITS, who the band considered the right choice due to his minimal, clean style, and
expertise in electronic production. As with previous Most People releases, it was recorded with Sydney Galbraith at Desert Fish Studios.

Expanding on the electronic concept for this EP, the duo reached out to their friends in the Toronto music community to curate a set of four remixes to accompany the three-song EP. Remixes were contributed by SlowPitchSound, Zoo OWL, DIGITS and Eytan Tobin (Bedroomer), adding to the record's feeling of light-hearted, community-based collaboration.

Foregoing traditional formats, Most People are self-releasing the EP in the form of a 8x8 vinyl-sized print that comes with a download code. The band went this unconventional route, because they wished to release their material in a way that matched the content and the way most people actually listen to their music. Their last EP, 2014's Stay Forever Here in the Night, came on a cassette with a download code, as those songs were heavily influenced by '80s new wave, creating a connection to the older format. The artwork for Violet Spaces was created by Most People guest member and in-house designer, Mike Pereira.

For the release show on May 23 at Clay and Paper Theatre, Most People will be performing the songs from EP at the end of their set. With the help of Andrew
Lamb, the band will be immersed in a inter-disciplinary theatrical show incorporating puppetry, dancers and projections. Most People have recruited numerous members of the Toronto arts community to help make EP release show a night to remember!
