Extra Extra! Wavelength Music Series Moves to New Venue, Neighbourhood!

Exciting new space The Garrison, located on Dundas Street, west of Ossington

As of Sunday Oct. 4th, the weekly Wavelength series will be moving to a new venue to complete its run of 500 shows. Our new home is a new space called The Garrison, located at 1197 Dundas St. W. — one block west of Ossington. This area is becoming more of a hub of artistic activity, given its proliferation of art galleries, bars, cafes and live venues such as the Dakota Tavern, and we are thrilled to "move with the times" and be a part of this exciting, up-and-coming neighbourhood.

Founded in late 1999 and launched in Feb. 2000 at College street venue Ted's Wrecking Yard, the Wavelength music series and accompanying zine/website www.wavelengthtoronto.com has become an influential institution in Toronto's independent music scene, helping launch the careers of bands from Broken Social Scene and Feist to Tokyo Police Club and Crystal Castles, while continuing to be a key incubator for young and emerging artists. Wavelength moved to Sneaky Dee's in May 2002, and has called the venue home for the last 7 years.

With Wavelength now in its 10th year, organizers Doc Pickles, Kevin Parnell, Ryan McLaren and Jonny Dovercourt plan to conclude the weekly Wavelength series on its 10th anniversary and 500th show with the Wavelength 500 Festival in Feb. 2010. After that, the series will change to a new format, in the vein of the Special Events that Wavelength has been presenting around town for the last two years. Two such events coming up include two nights with "Ethio-punk" ensemble Getatchew Mekuria & The Ex & Guests (visiting from the Netherlands and Ethiopia!) on Sept. 12 & 13 at the SPK hall, and the all-ages mini-festival ALL CAPS! On The Island, Oct. 17 at Gibraltar Point Centre for the Arts on Toronto Island.
