By wavelength ~ Posted Sunday, May 16th 2004THE HOSPITALS WERE SENT TO DAN BURKE (VICE VERSA?)
Holy fucking gossip and drama! Here the basic scoop: During a Tuesday night (Band of the Month) at the Silver Dollar, the Vulcan Dub Squad played a set (and went on too long maybe?) and The Hospitals, who went on after were a little pissed (maybe?). And then Dan Burke got angry because they started playing on the floor (maybe?). Or The Hospitals were just setting up and weren't really playing (maybe?). This story can end the same way the movie Clue ended, with three different versions. Slap on which ending you'd like.
Punches were thrown, guitars were smashed and drums were tossed around. I've said it before and I'll say it again, Dan Burke, love him or hate him, always brings controversy and entertainment. A great combo.

PHEW, HE'S OK!
Doc Pickles is settling in well in his new role as the face of the blockbusting gentrification machine known as the Drake Hotel. He now drives an SUV and enjoys Starbucks.
NEW BLOCKS TO BUILD
Blocks recording club has some new releases, among them the highly anticipated Les Mouches disc, You're Worth More To Me Than 1000 Christians. The MP3 of their song 'œCarload of Whatever'? can be found on the blocks website and has been quoted as being 'œShitloads of Ohmygod.'? Releases from Bob Wiseman as well. www.blocksblocksblocks.com.
HMV IS GREAT!!! CD COMPILATION
Not that you need another reason to hate HMV but the manager of 333 Yonge Street was seen throwing out an entire stack of Wavelength magazines after they were placed in the store. People were actually picking them up for the short period of their shelf life. The worst part is that they were thrown in the garbage when there was a recycling box right next to it!
WAVELENGTH GOES MAINSTREAM
The Toronto Star had a dandy little feature on independent magazines on April 13th. Featured were Spirit, Kiss Machine, Hive and Wavelength. www.torontostar.com (type: wavelength).
THE UNCUT SIGN
The Uncut have been signed to Paper Bag Records (home of Matt Barber, FemBots, Stars, Hawaii and more). The Uncut have been plugging through Toronto bars for the last little while, slowly picking up steam. Check out their CD release party at the loft behind the Horseshoe on May 7th.

FOUR GUT ANNIVERSARY
It seems pointless writing this because everyone will know about this already and if they don't they'll be hearing lots about it. But anyways, Three Gut Records four-year anniversary at the Horseshoe: May 28 Gentleman Reg, Cuff The Duke, Royal City. May 29 Jim Guthrie, Oneida, The Constantines. www.threegutrecords.com.
WOLF PARADING ON HOLD
The Dovercourt house show on April 3rd with Wolf Parade, The Creeping Nobodies and Old Time Relijun was amazing. The only thing better were the decorations. Wolf Parade opened the night jokingly mocking The Arcade Fire: 'œHello, my name is Win Butler and this is my lovely wife Regine.'? Wolf Parade, who don't have a real album yet, are rumoured to be recording in Chicago over the next few months. You can download some really rough/live versions of their songs on www.newmusiccanada.com (type: Wolf Parade). They'll be on hiatus until mid-July and then head out on tour around August. They might have a seven-inch coming out through the art-gallery-project thingy Pavillion (www.pavillionprojects.com) and they are also in talks with Sub Pop to do a record.
ACID TESTING
It's been ten years since Sire Records dropped the band Acid Test from their label but they've decided to give it another go. Fuck it, if the Pixies can do it, so can Acid Test. New tracks and new dates coming soon. Fun fact: The last show Acid Test played was in August 1994 opening up for Nine Inch Nails in Las Vegas.
BRINGING YOU PLEASURE ON MAY 25TH
On the heels of their acclaimed indie smash Hot New Spirits, Toronto's Tangiers return reborn and rejuvenated with their sophomore follow up, Never Bring You Pleasure due out in Canada on May 25th 2004, June 22nd 2004 in the U.S. and July 19th 2004 in the U.K. OK. I copied this blurb from www.sonicunyon.com because it just summed things up so nicely. Check out MP3s of the Tangiers on Pitchfork if you can't wait until the release.
