Awesome
By wavelength ~ Posted Wednesday, October 27th 2004Wavelength's own Jam Butty combined his interview with Awesome's Colin Bergh and Alex Snukal with a psychic reading and a madlib to give us their Story of Awesome.
Who is Awesome? Alex: Colin Bergh, me, Matt Smith, Paul Mortimer, Thomas Playfair, Nico Dann. That's it, for now.
My full name is Michael James Owen Pallett-Plowright. The 'œawesome'? form of that name is 'œKing of Bedrock, God of the Farmlands.'? What about you guys? Colin: Colin McBride Bergh becomes... well, McBride means 'œson of Bridget,'? who's a pagan goddess. Bergh means mountain. I don't know what Colin means.
It sounds kind of like 'œcolon.'? Alex: You could be 'œMt. Shit, son of the Pagans.'? Colin: That's good.
As that enlightening exchange concluded, we all went to see a psychic to ask her about the future. Here's what she said:
'œIn five years, members of Awesome will still be living in Toronto, working at HMV or someplace nice. Colin will have a successful modeling career. In ten years, Awesome will finally launch an amazing tour of Australia with an overrated headlining band.'?
It was then about 10pm, and Jam Butty and the band made a madlib to best describe the story of Awesome. For the stupid: a madlib is when you write a story, blanking out particular nouns, verbs, adjectives and the like. You ask somebody to blindly give you a list of appropriate words for each blank (they don't know the rest of the sentence, though). Then you read the finished product and hilarity ensues.
THE STORY OF AWESOME.
Awesome came together awesomely (adverb), one day in the mad Holy Father (noun) of Summer 2004. Their first show was wicked (adjective), with the four young druids (noun) wearing long magical robes and sporting wild, dreamy megaliths (noun).
Their early manifesto was 'œTo Erect (verb, infinitive action) is not enough! There must also be migration (verb)!'? They stand by these wise words.
Topics of their music include lethargy (abstract noun) and longhouses (noun), and every overlong, droney anthem is accompanied by intense rowing (verb).
They've often been compared to flying with a Valkyrie (verb or a noun) and swimming (verb) on a dark night under an autumnal gryphon (verb). Their first album, Plagues & Tears '” still unreleased '” was awarded a stunning 9.9 (number) by online music magazine 'œSkoal'? (buzzword), featuring such awesome songs as 'œIt's the Chemistry That Counts'? (expression) and 'œAs The Crow Flies'? (expression).
The mood of their music is decidedly dirty (adjective related to hygiene).
Upon hearing the music of these four young monasteries (noun), sparrows all over the world flapped their mighty force fields (noun) and flew off into the starry mastodon (noun).
To conclude, let it be known, the men of Awesome are monastic (adjective), and though they may self-flagellate (verb), they may never have been said to have been amazing (adjective).
Now do it on someone else so you can have your own 'œSTORY OF AWESOME'?!!!!!
