LadyFest 2004

Ladyfest Toronto is happening Oct. 1-3 at various venues around town, primarily in the Parkdale area. A crew of approximately ten ladies have been organizing since April and are very excited to be presenting over 50 bands, spoken word artists, films, workshops and more! All proceeds from LFTO will be donated to CultureLink's newcomer drop-in programs for young women.

Ladyfest Toronto is a community-based, non-profit event designed by and for women* to showcase, celebrate and encourage the artistic, organizational and political work and talents of women. It will feature performances by bands, spoken word artists, authors, visual artists and more. It will include workshops, screenings and dance parties. This is a woman-run event but all are welcome to attend.

THE JANE WAYNES
The story of hard-workin' country posse The Jayne Waynes begins, as most good cowboy yarns do, with a chance meeting back in 2001 in a seedy saloon where the beers are cheap and the ladies are wily, hidden somewhere in the mean streets of Toronto. Over the years, founding members Tucker and Travis have rounded up a full band and have perfected their sweetsound, cranking out sepia-toned down-home country ditties with a postmodern gender-bending twist. With tunes that range from galloping instumentals that seem like soundtracks for imaginary Sergio Leone Spaghetti Westerns, mournful bluegrass ballads and rollicking covers, The Jayne Waynes make their 21st century originals sound like old-timey country classics and give old faithfuls like Mississippi John Hurt an updated edge.

THE SUNDAY SINNERS
Up from Ashes, Smoke, Brimstone, the Sunday Sinners stomp down some blatant rock'n'roll. A pride of young cats presiding from Montreal raising up that new gospel sound. Move your feet and shake your soul. Sounds wreak of high yella's swinging their thing through night and into the morn. Throwing hands towards the sky singing his praise... Hallelujah!
