By wavelength ~ Posted Wednesday, October 27th 2004WAVELENGTH WILL NOW BE HELD ON SUNDAY!
Though the past four years of Wavelength have been held on Fridays, they will now be held on Sundays. 'œThere's no better place than Sneaky Dee's (431 College, 416-603-3090) on Friday nights to see art school fashions'? '” NOW. FUCK. Whatever I've been going to on Sundays has been pretty good times. www.wavelengthtoronto.com, www.nowtoronto.com
WAVELENGTH WILL NOW BE HELD IN MONTREAL!
Some friends and I were all gonna go up for the Pop Montreal fest (which makes the Toronto festivals look like Emergenza, the rip-off Battle of the Band shows where people pay $20 to see their friends suck on stage). But going through the line-up, I decided not to go, seeing that every band is from Toronto. And if they're not from Toronto, they are playing Toronto the days before or after. Nevertheless, if you are going or have friends in Montreal, spread the gospel because Blocks, Three Gut and Paper Bag Records all have cool showcases! Zut alors! Tabernak! www.popmontreal.com
SPITFIRES & PROCRASTINATORS
'œSlowly, surely, the record is being mixed. And we're still figuring out the fall show schedule. So, well, there will be more concrete musical news... soon. We swear.'? That is a quote from the Spitfires & Mayflowers site. Fuck them. They've had little warnings about their album coming for months. I'm starting to think there is no record. Maybe they aren't even a band. Maybe it's all been a dream. They say they are 'œplaying on the 8th'? with their 'œfriends'? Cuff the Duke at Sneaky Dee's, but let's just see. www.spitfiresmayflowers.com
CREEPING NOWHERE USA
October will see shows in Brantford, Montreal and much of the Eastern USA for The Creeping Nobodies. Check out their new CD, which is being released in about six days ago. Make sure to tell your friends in Butt-Fuck USA to check out these shows. www.creepingnobodies.com
A CLOSER WALK
Speaking of the Lord, Jon-Rae Fletcher (River-less) quietly released his Just A Closer Walk CD-R on Blocks RC. This is the long-awaited, finally available, all-hymns solo recording by Toronto's (ex-Vancouver's) most beloved drunk country and western/rock'n'roll musician. Contains several big hits: 'œDidn't It Rain?,'? 'œDown By The Riverside,'? 'œJust A Closer Walk With Thee'? and many others. Perfect for Sunday mornings. He sells it for $5 at shows '” what kind of a cheap fuck are you not to buy that shit? All the cursing probably isn't appropriate for music news about a gospel-ish album. He and the River also have a new track on the Good Grooming For Girls compilation.
SEA SNAKES: POST-PUNCTUAL
With several hot opening gigs and other great showcases in New York and Montreal, TGR's new signing, the Sea Snakes, release their debut disc on Oct 23rd at the Dovercourt House with Polmo Polpo. I don't think this is the actual release date '” probably the bullshit release date to get all the press facts straight so keep you eyes and ears open. It'll probably be popping up soon.
GUNNING FOR YOU
Ben Gunning, best known for his mind-blowing falsetto voice, pensive lyrics and blistering guitar solos with the Local Rabbits, is following in the footsteps of another Rabbit gone solo, Peter Elkas (Maple Music Recordings). Local Rabbits fans have been treated to Elkas's solo work for quite some time and now. Gunning will be taking his new material to the stage this fall with friends in tow. Gunning's new material, which can only be described as eclectic, danceable and gloriously innovative in the Toronto rock scene, will delight Rabbits followers and new fans alike. www.bengunning.com.
SOMEONE WE KNOW IS WRITING A BOOK!
Even though nobody reads anymore, Kate Carraway a.k.a. Kid Spill will be reading from her novel in progress about all sorts of boys and girls just like you on Monday, October 4th at 8pm at Fuse Room) on College across from Sneaky Dee's as part of the Transient Orange reading series.
