CAN YOU OUTLINE YOUR CURRENT/VARIOUS MUSICAL ENDEAVOURS, AND EXPLAIN WHAT YOU'LL BE BRINGING TO WL?
I'm Dylan Goodhue. I play guitar in White Cowbell Oklahoma. We play festivals in Europe with names I can't pronounce in front of 20,000 people. I play guitar for Comedian Sean Cullen, we fly around to London and LA and whatnot doing comedy clubs and TV gigs like BBC or the Tonight show. I also whore myself out as a guitarist. I'm bringing my band to Wavelength. The Dylan Goodhue Band. It's a four-piece rock band. Dave Pontello on drums, Gord Light on bass and vocals (White Cowbell, Delta) Emily Weedon on piano and vocals (Delta) and little old me on Telecaster guitar and vocals. We call it girlfriend rock. There's lots of singing and songs about heartbreak and cats and female ejaculation. We've been pluggin' away every Wednesday at the Cameron House for six months developing our gig. What else am I bringing to Wavelength? My cool little amp called a Belltone. I'm bringing Debbie Murphy, who is the sound engineer for Grady and possibly the hottest audio engineer. I'm bringing my nice black shirt.
WHO'S "GRADY"?
Gordie Johnson of Big Sugar fucked off to Austin to start a filthy amazing rock band called Grady. It was a wise move that I am emulating. I'm a soundman and I used to mix Grady at the Continental Club in Austin Texas on Wednesdays. Fuck, they're loud. Anyhoo, his Front of House audio engineer is Debbie Murphy. She's a sound buddy and a cool lady, so I invited her to mix for fun. You asked what I was going to bring and I thought, hmmm, I'm bringing my band, my cool amp and Debbie to Wavelength. I'm literal.
I HEAR YOU LOOK LIKE WAYNE COYNE. TRUE OR FALSE?
He's the dude from Flaming Lips right? Yeah, well I got a beard and I sing about weird shit too. His beard is silvery, like a wise man.
DOES SEAN CULLEN PAY YOU IN HOOKERS OR BLOW?
Sean Cullen pays me in friendship, respect and a fine wage. I don't like blow and I get sex free. Well, there's always a price.
WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT WAVELENGTH?
Wavelength is Toronto's urban indie rock scene. Its facets are the weekly Sunday gig at Sneaky Dee's and the website. I know Duncan and Steve from when we used to work for that sniveling cunt Jeff Stober at the Drake. Wavelength is a lot of thin androgynous music lovers that wear skinny t-shirts with ironic logos.
WHAT TORONTO BANDS DO YOU LIKE?
Peter Elkas - his band is real sensitive, he's part of the secret beard society and his beautiful girlfriend Anisa is the most talented barista in Toronto. Henri Faberge & the Adorables - this motherfucker can write catchy sing-a-long pop, and Dana (Snell) is a badass drummer. The Golden Dogs '“ pure, well-orchestrated glorious rock. Rush - guilty pleasure and required listening for all music nerds.
WHAT ARE YOUR TOP THREE FAVE CITIES AND WHY?
Austin, Texas - Free yoga and great coffee at Rutamaya, cheap Meskin food, a culture that loves and appreciates music, and it's warm. Most Canadians aren't aware that there are other options than living in a cold harsh environment. Edinburgh, Scotland - the festival, the pints, my heritage. Toronto, Canada - the hardest working motherfucking city. If you didn't come here to work on your craft go back to Kincardine. The most beautiful, sophisticated ladies. An awesome blend of cultures; I walk down to Kensington Market and see Hassidic Jews, Angolan cabbies, transgender couples and bohemian artist types.
