Ghost Hands
By wavelength ~ Posted Thursday, December 14th 2006Ghost Hands is Mister Andre Theriault, a lulling acoustic solo performer. His melancholy voice swells, warms and envelops the listener, while his tragic lovesickness might make them huddle into a fetal position. You can tell living in Mississauga has really gotten to him. Allana Mayer to cheer him up and remind him of all the happy things in life.
Why is your MySpace page so devoid of information? Are you trying to make things hard for me?
I'd prefer it if people asked me about things in person, rather than read it off a screen. I LOVE TO TALK, SO COME UP AND TALK TO MEEEE.
Give a basic biography of yourself and tell us why you're making Ghost Hands music.
I am 20 years old; I was born in France and lived there until I was five. I was in a band called The Lava Witch, but we broke up. I've been doing this project since I was 16. I made a promise to myself that I would make music under this name for the rest of my life. I'm saving money right now to go on tour forever come summer. The reason why I'm making this music is probably the same reason that any other artist creates things - because if I don't create I get depressed.
Are a lot of women in Mississauga heartbreakers? Of course they are; why else would your music be so sad?
I break my own heart by never making moves on any female felines'¦ Once I get my braces off and lose some weight, maybe then I will start making some moves - and maybe then my music will cheer up!
Who would you list as your general musical inspiration?
Anything raw and real. There are too many things that inspire me'¦ I couldn't write them all down, and don't feel right picking and choosing only certain ones.
Where do you see yourself, five years from now? Solo, in a band, playing big stadiums or still living in Mississauga?
Five years from now I see myself still doing this project, hopefully on tour and hopefully still wanting to tour for the rest of my life. I think eventually I would like to have some people play different instruments with me for an album or two, but right now I prefer things by myself. Hopefully I won't be living anywhere in particular, I want to be able to tour forever and live wherever people let me stay... My dream is to be able to make a living off of music and, if I can save enough money, move back to France for a year or two (pretty far-fetched, I know).
Why make the kind of music you do? Why not fiddle with synthesizers in your basement like all the other cool kids are doing?
I never really got into synthesizers. I have an organ which I like, but I don't like many digital sounding things; I want things to sound their most real, and I can't seem to do that when a sound is made by a computer. Don't get me wrong - I'm sure there are many groups using synths and still make wonderful music. Simply put, I play the kind of music I do because that's what comes out of me.
Let's talk about your obsession with cats. How many do you own? Do you throw them at people?
I unfortunately do not own any; my parents are allergic. I feel a strong bond with them for some reason, though. I'm always running into overly friendly stray cats, and I always spend way too much time playing with them.
Are you gonna do one of those recording things sometime soon? EP, LP?
Yeah, I'm working on that right now. Times are hard for me at the moment: I'm working at a factory, so when I get home I don't really feel like doing anything'¦ But, yeah, it's going to be out in the next little while.
How did you get into the We Are Busy Bodies family?
Eric Warner, who runs the label, had me play a couple of shows. They went over pretty well, so he asked me to join the label. They are a great record label from Toronto and they help out some great bands!
What are your Christmas and New Years plans?
I plan to spend X-mas with my family and friends, and plan to get really messed up on New Years and have a fun time.
