The News -- Is Us!
By wavelength ~ Posted Sunday, February 4th 2007Welcome to the future! It's an exciting time for the WL -- next week is our big seventh anniversary party, and to celebrate, we've just published a sharp-looking special edition of the print zine, AND we have this brand-spanking-new website. These changes have been a long time coming... it's been two years since we last published a zine in hard copy form, and almost three years since our last web redesign. We're still working out some of the navigation kinks here, but this new site will offer a much greater integration between the "music series" and "zine" aspects of WL. This newsblog feature will allow for up-to-the-minute updates, show reviews and general chatter-of-interest from Wavelength editors and contributors. So for now, you can just ignore the fact that the last piece of news we posted was, er, 11 months ago...
Tonight's Wavelength features Entire Cities and We Take Lovers! EC played a great set in the face of overwhelming audience chatter at last weekend's Xpace (the OCAD Student Union gallery) -- it's pretty brave for an "alt-country" band to play at an art opening, it's bit removed from yr standard synth/noise/performance art fare. Lauren Schreiber of ALL CAPS! and Shameless mag plays flute in that band. WTL! features Mark Meeks aka Carny of stillepost fame, who was also the mastermind behind the zombie musical Rigor Mortis Got Me Down, which was staged at Wavelength Halloween '05, and Shayna Stevenson, who is a member of the amazing Singing Saw Shadow Show. The interviews with both bands should be posted shortly.
Oh yes: for those who are looking for the print zine, it's available in downtown Toronto at "the usual places" -- Soundscapes, Rotate This, Sonic Boom, She Said Boom, Suspect Video... and it's FREE to pick up. Sorry Rest of World, we're working on global distribution plans. OK we're not, really. But we're open to suggestions!!
