These guys may be the “last band standing” of the Torontopic Class of ’04. Times are tough for a jaggedly dancey post-punk quartet, as everything around them divides into party-party dance bands and folky/weepy singer-songwriter-land. It may look like Femme Generation have kept a low profile for the last year or two, but they’ve just been busy at home trying out new things since their drummer left — writing songs with drum machines, putting up raw tracks online for people to download and remix. Last year they released a 7” called “The Future Called, They Want Their Sound Back” (also available for download). Now they have Michael McGrath signed up as full-time drummer, and they’re ready to be back as regular contestants on the live scene in ’08. — Jonny Dovercourt
