Lioness

"Magic and no guitars"

Do you ever wonder what it's like on the inside of love? Well, if your definition of love is uninhibited, sweaty sound orgies the answer is: Lioness. Vanessa Fischer, Jeff Scheven, and Ronnie Morris have done away with that pesky six string nuisance we call a “guitar" and replaced it with a “hot beat". They may be a fresh ensemble but the trio is no rookies to putting on a wicked show. Jeff and Ronnie are former members of controller.controller and Vanessa hails from No Dynamics. Matt Pilgrim corresponded via e-mail with the latter to discuss hot topics.

There are going to be people who will undoubtedly compare Lioness with your other projects. What are the key differences that set this band apart?

Magic and no guitars.

Do you have a title for the upcoming EP and will it be available for the grubby fingers of Wavelength attendees?

We still need to master our record, so our EP will not be available ‘till the spring. As for a title... nothing definitive yet, maybe "abstract freedom expressed in luminous rhetoric"?

What was the recording process like? Did you feel any pressure or was it free and easy?

We recorded with Rob Sanzo at Signal 2 Noise. He was easy to work with and understood our ideas. I feel pressure every time I record. You want perfection, but you can only sing something so many times. Johnnie Walker red, black and green helped.

How did you meet the other members of the band?

We met in a dream. Jeff fit into the skeleton shirt and Ronnie had a Crass tattoo. Their rhythms ticked my feet.

Do you have any pet peeves?

Impolite people, ignorant people, human sheep and wolves, factory farming.

What's your theory on life?

Anything is possible / whatever you do will come back to you / always have hope.
