Wavelength officially launches Summer June 27!

We're pretty stoked (as "the kids" say) about our latest Wavelength special event — a.k.a. shows we present on other days of the week besides Sunday. This one is coming up Saturday June 27 in the lovely outdoor courtyard of St. George the Martyr Church — home of the Music Gallery — as part of the MG's Summer Courtyard Series.

Here's the line-up!
MAGIK MARKERS
MOUTHUS
GFR vs WASTED NYMPH

I was first blown away by Magik Markers upon hearing their 2007 Ecstatic Peace release Boss in a New York record store, the now-gone Kim's on St. Mark's Place in the East Village. Noise-squall feedback gave way to swinging, bluesy dirge-rock and the gripping yet detached vocals of Elisa Ambroglio. I was an immediate fan.

We've been trying to bring the Markers to Toronto since then, and we heard good things about their last show here, at the Tiger Bar in May '07. Originally a trio, they're now a duo with Ambroglio on guitar/voice and Pete Nolan on drums. Getting them to go anywhere is tough, as they now live on opposite sides of the continent: Pete in Brooklyn and Elisa in San Francisco.

Magik Markers come to town with a new record, Balf Quarry (Drag City), in hand and they're also bringing another duo along for the ride, New York noise dudes Mouthus (Brian Sullivan and Nate Nelson), who have released stuff on Ecstatic Peace, Load and Important Records. And in typically symmetrical Wavelength fashion, the home team is represented by a double duo — a specially WL-commissioned collaboration between Toronto's own Gastric Female Reflex and their Bennifer Editions compadres from Montreal, Wasted Nymph.

Speaking of Montreal, the Music Gallery's Summer Courtyard Series was created in affiliation with the Suoni per il Popolo Festival, which takes over the twin venues of Casa del Popolo and La Sala Rossa for the month of June. It's a drool-worthy line-up (as always), so do check it out if you happen to be in MTL next month.

For those "stuck" in Toronto (and really, where else would you wanna be?), the rest of the Courtyard Series line-up includes: Vancouver's Fond of Tigers + our own Brides playing Glenn Branca's "Lesson #1" with a mini-army of extra guitarists (June 19), the T.O. debut of Instant Coffee, a new trio featuring people from Matmos and Half Japanese (June 20), Sir Richard Bishop of the Sun City Girls (June 21), Contact's Pride Week show (June 26) and a collab between Vancouver's Veda Hille and Montreal's Christof Migone (June 28).

But anyways: June 27. The last Saturday in June. Wavelength in the Music Gallery Courtyard. The vibe? Nighttime garden party meets nihilist rock throwdown. You ready?
