And now it's time for.... Pop Montreal!

If everyone you know seems to be scrambling to find a spot in car or book a plane or train ticket, there's a very good reason.... the Pop Montreal International Music Festival launches tonight in that belle ville six hours east of here. As usual, there's no shortage of things to check out — and once again, the line-up is an impressive mix of established career artists and up-and-coming youngsters, with plenty of art and community activity thrown in for good measure.

This year is particularly exciting for Wavelength, as we're presenting our first-ever Pop Montreal showcase on Saturday (Oct. 2), at Cabaret Playhouse on Avenue du Parc. The night will feature a packed line-up of five amazing bands, mostly representing Toronto, but with Great Lakes sister city Chicago also on board. At the risk of favouring one act over the others, however, we are proud to have another chance to turn the spotlight on our Guelph friends Polydactyl Hearts Collective, who will be presenting the piece we commissioned them to create for last spring's Images Festival. Combining a jazzy post-rock score with game-controller-manipulated visuals, Hello Adventure (pictured above) was a surprise hit at the discerning experimental film festival, and won their "Overkill" award.

If you're unable to make it down to Montreal, PHC will also be presenting Hello Adventure in a double feature with their first piece, the "graphic novel bike opera" Le Cyc, on Thursday night (Sept. 30) in Toronto at the Music Gallery. Tickets are on sale at Rotate This, Soundscapes and TicketWeb.
