Bicycle Films Forever

In spare moments between Wavelength events, I managed to find time this summer to help pitch in with the Bicycle Film Festival, which among four days of programming is throwing a bash at the Horseshoe this Thursday mixing film, theatre, and an awesome collection of bands.

The BFF is such a quirky event, seemingly even more relevant considering the state of Toronto's semi official War On The Bike. Who knows where that's going to take us in the next couple years, but with the removal of bike lanes and talk of bike licensing coming at the same time that the Cyclists Union gains steam and Bixi is welcomed with opened arms it seems like the right time for a festival to get you thinking about bike culture.

The kickoff features the legendary Meligrove Band, fresh off the release of their fascinating documentary, and Octoberman, originally a west coast project now based in Toronto that has been writing increasingly challenging songs to produce some of the most refreshing Americana this side of Royal City. SPIN is an award-winning experimental musical theatre project written and performed
by local artist Evalyn Parry that incorporates bicycles as instruments and opening is Christien Summers, a side project of Gareth Jones who heads up Upper Class Recordings (Cadence Weapon, Russian Futurists) and was in the overlooked band The Casecos who played Wavelength 267.
