Everything you wanted to know about camping (but were afraid to ask)

This year at the ALL CAPS! Island Festival we’re very proud to offer overnight camping! This marks the first time you can camp at the Island Festival and makes this Toronto’s first camping music festival. We want to make this a regular feature of this annual event, so please take a look at the info below and enjoy!

Camping is available only if you’ve purchased a camping pass. Camping passes are per person, so whether you each have your own tent or you all pile into one, you will each need a pass. If anyone tries to camp overnight without a camping pass, we will have to call security and they’ll put you on a water taxi back to the mainland at your own expense. Camping is for one night only.

Location: Artscape Gibraltar Point on Toronto Island. It's right across the roadway from the Gibraltar Point lighthouse. You will need to go to the Toronto Ferry Docks located at Bay and Queen’s Quay and take the Hanlan’s ferry. From there, you can take the shuttle bus (only at designated times listed below) or walk to
the AGP.

The Toronto Ferry Dock is located here: http://bit.ly/pgnPVf

The AGP is located here: http://bit.ly/pE2r61 The camping area is an open field next to the AGP (the west lawn).

Ferry schedule: The ferry schedule can be found here (make sure you click the summer schedule): http://www.toronto.ca/parks/island/ferry-schedule.htm

* Please note that the festival pass does not include the price of the ferry; that is extra. As well, ferry staff do not have detailed information about the festival, although they may be able to provide you with directions to Artscape Gibraltar Point.

Arrival: Arrival time for camping is 4pm on Saturday, August 13th. You’ll need to check in at the designated camping table on the north side of the Centre (signs will point you in the right direction). There you’ll sign in and a Wavelength volunteer will show you where to pitch your tent.

Departure: 10:30pm Sunday. The last band finishes at 10:15 and the last two ferries from Hanlan’s leave at 10:30pm and 11:15pm. Since it will be dark by then, you will need to pack up all your gear earlier in the day and sign out at the camping table. We will have a tent-checking system so you can safely pick up your gear
as soon as the show is over. More details will be given at the show.

Shuttle Bus: The ferry leaves the ferry docks for Hanlan’s Point every half hour at :15/quater past and :45/quater to. We will have a shuttle bus available on the Saturday for the 3:15pm, 3:45pm and 4:15pm ferry. On Sunday, we will have a shuttle back to the Hanlan’s Point at 10:30pm and 10:50pm. Please note that because the island is very busy on the weekend, these are the only shuttles we can offer. Please come at these times or you will have to walk. If you choose to walk, however, Centre Island is slightly closer to the festival venue and the last Centre Island ferry leaves at 11:45pm on Sunday.

Washrooms: Washrooms are available in the Centre from 8am-midnight. After midnight, there is a public washroom a quick walk westward, down the roadway from the Centre.

Security: There will be security on hand at all times to provide any necessary assistance.

First aid: There will be a volunteer available at all times to administer first aid if necessary, and will be able to call for further assistance if required.

Food: Artscape Gibraltar Point will be selling food throughout the day on Saturday and Sunday including a BBQ dinner both days and breakfast from 9am-11am on Sunday. Food is also available at the Ward’s Island Clubhouse, The Rectory Café near Ward’s Island, Pizza Pizza stands located around Centre Island, and a snack bar located on
Hanlan’s Point.

Water: Water bottles will be available at AGP, and there is a water foundation located near the public washrooms, but we highly recommend you bring at least a litre of bottled water for overnight hydration.

Money: There is only one cash machine on the island, located in Centreville. It is highly recommend that you bring any required money (for food, drinks, band merch, etc.) with you when you come to the island.

Bugs: There can be a lot of annoying bugs on Toronto Island, including mosquitoes and fire ants. Bug repellant is an effective deterrent. Bring lots.

Flashlight: Please bring a flashlight for navigating the park grounds after dark.

Swimming: The AGP is located right next to Gibraltar Point Beach, one of Toronto's blue flag beaches, which means it's great for swimming. There will be plenty of free time on Sunday before the bands start, so bring some sunscreen and your swim gear!

Cameras: Take pictures and video! After the event, send us links to your photos and videos and we'll post the best ones on this here Wavelog.

Final note: Remember, the AGP is a residence for more than 32 people, so the centre will be closed from midnight to 8am on Sunday. After midnight we ask that you be respectful of the AGP residents as well as the island residents and other campers by keeping a low volume.

This is the first time we’ve ever been able to offer camping at this event, and if it goes well we stand a good chance of being able to offer it again in the future. We want to create a positive and inspiring experience for everyone involved, so please respect the Centre, respect the island, and respect the other campers.

See you on August 13th!
