Wavelength goes on the Road!

We're thrilled to share the news that in just a few short weeks, we'll be taking the Wavelength "experience" on the road! Audiences outside our fair megacity will have the chance to check out some of the most innovative and exciting new bands and artists from the Toronto area. The Wavelength Roadshow will take our three 2013 Artist Incubator bands - Most People, Fresh Snow and Del Bel (back from a seven-month hiatus) - as well as a mobile art installation by Alexandra MacKenzie (of Petra Glynt / Romo Roto fame) up and down the 401 for a series of showcases during the second half of June.

For the Roadshow, we're teaming up with some great presenting partners in each of the cities. On Friday June 21, the Roadshow will land at St. Alban's Church in Ottawa, where our friends at the Arboretum Arts Festival are teaming up with the punk-raucous Ottawa Explosion Festival (which takes over the National Capital Region that weekend) to present "Holy Smokes!" The Wavelength bands will be joined by locals The Yips, then at midnight it turns into a dance party with some of the town's favourite DJs. Arboretum, by the way, have recently announced the line-up for their second annual festival this August, and it's pretty stunning. On Saturday June 22, we're heading to Montreal to take part in the amazing Suoni per il Popolo Festival, one of the world's best festivals for new and experimental music. Run out of the twin venues Casa del Popolo and La Salla Rossa, Wavelength will be at the former, more intimate room - which also adjoins one of the best patios. We're excited for Montreal mood rockers Big Brave to join the bill. The tour continues the following weekend in Southwestern Ontario, with shows Thursday June 27 at Ed Video Media Arts Centre in Guelph (co-presented with our compadres Kazoo!), Friday June 28 at cafe/music venue Homegrown Hamilton (with guests, Sensei, a new spinoff of space-rock legends Sianspheric) and wrapping up Saturday June 29 in the Forest City, London, Ontario at APK Live with country punk upstarts Billy Christopher (co-presented with Half a Dino). We hope the tour actually wraps up over drunkenly devoured burgers at the Prince Albert Diner...

The whole thing kicks off at the third of Wavelength's three showcases for NXNE, June 13-15 at new gallery/venue space Creatures Creating, on Dundas across from the Magpie. We've been asked to curate three nights of music as part of the annual Toronto music conference, and in true Wavelength form, we've brought you an all-Toronto line-up of 15 of the city's best new bands.... culminating in our three Roadshow participants on Saturday night, June 15th. There's a lot to check out at NXNE, and the festival continues to grow every year, but stop by Creatures if you want to hear something a little more..... well, Wavelength.
