ALL CAPS! Island Festival lineup announcement. And something special...
By ryan ~ Posted Saturday, June 25th 2011We're happy to announce the lineup for the sixth iteration of the ALL CAPS! summer show. On Saturday & Sunday, Aug. 13 & 14, 2011, Wavelength, Artscape Gibraltar Point and WhipperSnapper present The ALL CAPS! Island Festival at Artscape Gibraltar Point on Toronto Island.
This year's festival features... Juie Doiron (New Brunswick), The Wooden Sky, Monogrenade (Quebec) Steamboat, Muskox, Rich Aucoin (Nova Scotia), Dog Bus (Waterloo, ON), More or Les, Evening Hymns, Moon King (ex-Spiral Beach), Jenn Castle, DD/MM/YYYY
Also featuring: Land Lake Land, a collaboration between artists and performers curated by WhipperSnapper, featuring installations and site-specific interventions by Yuula Benivolski (Jenn Castle), Scott Cudmore (Evening Hymns), Joshua Barndt and Adrian Dilena (The Wooden Sky and DD/MM/YYYY).
Plus we are also very proud to present for the first time ever at this event: CAMPING overnight. A limited number of tickets will be available to allow overnight camping on the Artscape Gibraltar Point grounds. This marks the only time you can camp legally on Toronto Island without being a member of the Boy Scouts or Girl Scouts of Canada (who are only allowed on Snake Island! How Hardy Boys/Scooby Doo is that?), and we believe (if anyone can correct us, please do) this is the first and only camping music festival ever to take place in City of Toronto.
Plus Film screenings • Art installations • Open studios • BBQ • Swimming • Bonfire • Games • And more!
All always, this event is all ages. Ticket info and further details to be announced soon!

Famous people with vinyl
By ryan ~ Posted Monday, June 13th 2011I would usually avoid posting just a straight link, but this collection of photos of well known types hanging in the presence of vinyl is music nerd catnip. From James Dean to Madlib to Deborah Harry to The Cramps. And I love that Jimi Hendrix is listening to Elmore James.
So long SEE
By ryan ~ Posted Wednesday, June 8th 2011Just one week ago I read an interesting little column by Bert Archer on Toronto Standard called "Death of the Alt-Weekly." It appears to be slightly more precient than I thought at the time, as I just received the most recent issue of SEE Magazine, the award winning Edmonton alt-weekly, and learned that the paper is folding. Sad news. Apparently SEE is going to be absorbed by Vue Weekly, the other Edmonton weekly. We wish the folks at SEE and Vue the best of luck in the changing media landscape and look forward to their coverage of the amazing and oft-overlooked Edmonton scene.
